• Detailed instructions on how to maintain and modify your website

WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

1. Go to Hostican and sign up for an account (I would do this for you but it requires me to know your paypal or credit card information). This is your commercial hosting site. Click on the 'ORDER' tab. Click on 'I need to buy this domain' and then choose and fill in the information for the Domain Name (eg. familyonbikes.org). If it tells you that the name is not available keep putting new ones in until you get one that's not taken. Next, choose a package (I'd suggest the Base-Host Plan unless you plan on storing lots of photos. In this case I'd choose the Tera-Host Plan) and a duration. Click the continue button. On the next page type in the information they ask for. The cost of hosting your site here is $6.95 for the base-host plan. This cost, or course, is not included in the price you pay me for making your website.
2. Choose one of the following color schemes. I've suggested how these colors can be used, but please use these only as rough guidelines and use the colors however you want.
   • Earth Tones - These are the colors of our website (familyonbikes.org). Use these down-to-earth colors if the focus of your website has to do with nature. This is only a one-page sample, it's not a fully functional website.
   • Flashy Yellow - If you want to grab someone's attention, or if you want your website to be lively and have high energy use these colors. This is a fully functional website.
   • Autumn in the Desert - These colors are associated with relaxation, casualness, and nature. This is only a one-page sample, it's not a fully functional website.
   • Black Ice - If you want your website to exhibit the feeling of strength or mystery, use this one. This is only a one-page sample, it's not a fully functional website.
   • Pink Passion - Emotions and feelings these colors exhibit are softness, sweetness, innocence, youthfulness, tenderness. Great site if the focus of your website is on young children. This is only a one-page sample, it's not a fully functional website.
   • Royal Pastel - Nobility, luxury, mystery, royalty, and elegance are the feeling exhibited by these colors. This is a fully functional website.
3. Decide if you want me to install WordPress blogging software, Coppermine photogallery, and/or a slideshow in your website. Click here for the pros and cons of hosting a blog and photo gallery on your site.
4. Send me an email with the following information on it:
   • The color scheme you choose (eg. Black Ice)
   • The names you want on the five tabs (eg. About Us, Credits, etc.) Please keep them short so they fit on the tab!
   • Your domain name and password for your Hostican account
   • The title of the web site (what is written on the top of each page, eg. Family on Bikes, Designs by Nancy, etc.)
   • The picture you want to go with the title, the one on the top of each page. Send the picture as an attachment and be sure at least 828 pixels across. If you don't know what this means, a high resolution picture should do. Also note that the picture is long and skinny. I can resize and crop it.
5. Send me five more emails. They will contain the text and pictures you want on each page. Send the pictures as attachments and the writing as either as an attachment or in the body of the email. If you can, send me information on how you want the pages set up. Don't worry about it if you don't, I'll use my best judgement. The more detailed information you give me on how you want the pages set up, the better.
6. If you choose to include a slideshow, send a third email with those pictures
7. Deposit the cost of the website (see below) in the paypal account of sathren at gmail dot com. I'll start work on the website as soon as I get it. Remember I'm on the road so depending on where I am it may take me a few days to get to a place with internet access.
