Bicycle touring with children and homeschooling on the road are both incredible experiences for the entire family. While taking a family vacation, you'll see the world through the eyes of your child, and experience life in the fresh, uninhibited manner of children.
Adventure travel doesn't have to end when you become parents - you'll find that kids are capable of much more than you may have expected.
Dreaming of traveling with your children? Whether you want to travel on bikes, bus, or RV, we've got tons of tips and ideas to assist you in your planning. You can find info on:
The four of us (Mom, Dad and eleven-year-old twin boys) are bicycling from
Alaska to Argentina. When we reach the southernmost tip of South America, Davy and Daryl will
become the new Guinness World Record holders as the youngest people to cycle the Pan-American Highway! Follow along on our blog!
And if our extended trip has inspired you to create a bike trip of your own – that's fantastic. Whether you're ready to travel the Pan-American Highway yourself or are looking for a trip that requires less of a time commitment, one major aspect of touring is planning where you'll stay. Take timeshare adventures and bike from one rental to the next. Or do the same with campsites. You'll learn a lot on the road and will feel great when you've cycled to your goal destination each day.
Our journey through the Americas is different from anything we have done to date. The major difference is that this trip is not just about us – we will
endeavor to share our experiences with school kids, so that they can learn about our wonderful world. We are volunteering our time with Reach the World,
an educational 501(3)(c) non-profit organization with the mission of linking students in under-funded schools to online, global expeditions . These
expeditions have the power to expand learning beyond the four walls of the classroom. We are linked to RTW's classrooms via RTW's interactive
website and live Internet chats. We are thrilled about the possibilities! If you are able, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to the cause.
When making a donation, please specify "Family on Bikes" in the

There are a number of ways you can help us bring the world to under-privileged children.
By making a tax-deductible donation to RTW,
you will help pay for some of our expenses directly related to the journey - such as internet costs, entrance fees for parks/museums,
and/or plane tickets to New York to visit the classrooms. All donations to RTW in our name will go directly to the NYC program we are volunteering with.
Alternatively, you can donate directly to us for other, day-to-day expenses.

Another way you can help is by purchasing items from vendors advertised on our site. If you click on a link on this website to a company and purchase anything from them, we will get a small percentage of the sale.
Thank you for helping us bring the world to children in New York City!

What makes us think we can do this? We will freely admit that we may not, but if we don't take the first step we will fail for sure. The four of us are no strangers to the idea of bicycle touring, so have some idea of what we are getting in to. In 2006-07, we completed a 12-month, 9300-mile trek around the USA and Mexico. Check out this animated map of the trip! In our "before kids" days, we cycled many thousands of miles in nearly twenty countries. We've put together slide shows of those journeys.
