I’ve been working on getting all my old newsletters online along with slide shows for each one – it’s been a massive task! I am now almost completely done – only the very most recent one is left. So – for those of you who haven’t been with us from the beginning, I hope this [...]

A summary of our journey

A River Trip to Lamanai Mayan Ruins
A River Tour to Lamanai Mayan Ruins from John Vogel on Vimeo.
Sick (San Ignacio, Belize)
Daryl’s sick. He was fine all day. We are breakfast with the Friesens and he was his normal happy self playing with the kids. We pedaled up to San Ignacio and he was just fine. He spent a couple hours playing in the river and all was well. As we were riding out of town, [...]
St. Herman’s Cave and Blue Hole National Park (Spanish Lookout, Belize)
John and the kids headed out to Blue Hole while I hung out and relaxed! Entering St. Herman’s Cave Playing in Blue Hole The boys swam as far as they could into the cave before it got too dark.
Daryl’s Journal March 23
Today we went to St. Herman’s Blue Hole National Park. It was fun. First we went to St. Herman’s cave. It was dark. Some people got scared. It was cool. Then we went to the Blue Hole. There we played crocodile. It’s just like tag except it’s crocodile instead of “it”. Then we went into [...]
Davy’s Journal March 23
Today we went on a day trip. First, we went to St. Herman’s Cave. We went a ways into that. Then we went to the Blue Hole lake. That was soooooo fun. First we just swam. Then we and Daryl went to the mouth of St. Herman’s cave. St. Herman’s cave is a long tunnel. [...]
John’s Journal – March 22
“What is your all-time favorite place you have visited on this trip?” That’s the most common question people ask David and Daryl. Up until today the answer was Liard Hot Springs in British Columbia. Today that changed to “that river in Belize.” Today we had one of those truly unique days where everything just came [...]
A River Hike (Spanish Lookout, Belize)
“This is more fun that I thought it would be!” Lily said as she clambored over boulders along the river. “I was afraid it would be kind of boring.” Today rates right up there with the best of them as one of the best days of our journey. Shortly after a hearty breakfast of oatmeal [...]
Daryl’s Journal March 22
Today we went on a river trip. I was the first to go off a Tarzan swing, touch the river we were going to hike by, get near the falls, get in the river, dive off a rock, slide down a little waterfalls, get under a rock, get in a warm pool, slide down an [...]
Davy’s Journal March 22
Today when I woke up, I went to the Riesen’s RV. I had left my Gameboy in their RV in the knowledge that Edgar (one of the Riesen kids) would put fresh batteries in the Gameboy bag for letting him play on it for a long time. His favorite game is Kirby. Anyway, we [...]
A Soaking (Spanish Lookout, Belize)
“Are you sure you don’t want to put the bikes down in the garage?” Helmut asked. “Nah,” John replied. “Everyone’s waiting in the car. I’ll just cover the bikes with the tarp – it’ll be fine.” We had arrived into Spanish Lookout a few hours earlier and piled our bikes again Helmut and Anna’a RV. [...]
Davy’s Journal March 21
We met up with some old friends today – the Friesens. We met them about a month ago. We had met them near Minatitlan in Mexico. We met at a Pemex gas station. We played on waveboards. That was fun. But to get to the point – today we met them. We were pulling into [...]
Daryl’s Journal March 21
Today for breakfast we had oatmeal. Thankfully it didn’t have raisins. Raisins are horrible! Raisins totally ruin oatmeal and anything else! Then we left. We met up with a family we met a long time ago. It was fun.
Can I Help You? (Camalote, Belize)
“Can I help you?” We’ve gotten used to those words here in Belize. It seems like every time we stop, someone shows up to offer assistance. So we stood there at the junction trying to decide what to do. Going straight would take us in the direction we wanted to go – but there were no [...]
Quick Update
Not much time, but wanted to post a quick note to say we’re loving Belize! Right now we’re staying at the Belize Baptist Training Center with some missionaries and are on our way to meet up with a family we met a few weeks ago.
