During the summer of 1994, I took a solo bicycle trip around the perimeter of Zimbabwe. I found the country to be wild and untamed as long as you got off the beaten track, and there aren’t very many beaten tracks. I found the remote villages open and friendly and the countryside wild with unspoiled wilderness and filled with animals of all kinds (there were a few nights I didn’t sleep very well while listening to the animals). A mountain bike is a must for getting off the beaten track.
