During the summer of 1989 I rode my bicycle around Northern India. The most spectacular part (both in terms of scenery and culture) was a memorable journey over the Himalayan Mountains from Srinigar to Leh and back. I also rode from Srinigar to Delhi and around Rajasthan. This was an intense ride because I was riding in places where the locals very seldom see Westerners and I was constantly approached by them. They were extremely nice people but after a couple of months of constantly being inundated in this culture, I was getting a little stressed and ready for a ‘solitude’ vacation.
