A few hours later I awoke to an eerie silence - almost as though Mother Nature, herself, had headed off to her hibernation quarters and all was soundless. I lay there in utter darkness, listening to the muted noiselessness.
And then I heard it – the faint, muted pitter-patter of snowflakes falling on our tent.
This morning, just as the first rays of the sun hit our tent, I opened the tent – and found the ground covered with fluffy, cold, white stuff.
Although it was cold packing up, it didn’t take long for the sun to warm things up and we started doing our onion act – peeling off layer after layer after layer…

Glad you guys are on your way again. That snow looks cold, yet it only adds to the adventure. BTW, already planning my trip which should happen sometime next year. Not as ambitious as what you guys are doing, but it will be across the US. Will have some questions I am sure.
Take care,
J

You just nailed it, Jake!! What I love about our journey is that it’s all so unpredictable - we never know what might happen from one day to the next. We just live day by day and take it from there.

Loved the fall colors in the pictures. Looking forward to seeing them on our trip to Yellowstone in about 10 days.

The depth of your sons’ journal entries compared to your last trip is phenomenal–like they’ve matured 10 years or more (some people never improve). We might have future authors here–and they won’t lack for material, either.

LouAnn - I’m stunned at the boys’ writing sometimes as well. There are days when they just don’t write much, but other days when they nail it! It’s been fun to watch.
Evelyn - you’ll be amazed when you see this batch of photos!! We’re now in West Yellowstone and the fall colors are truly magical!!
Roger - that snow was very definitely way cool - literally!! It was cold, but it sure was purty!!
