Hiking the Jordan Trail: Day 21 – Rest day in Ais

zero day

Rest days, otherwise known as zero days due to zero miles hiked, are great treats while hiking a long distance trail.

It was the perfect day to spend in a hotel and watch the wind blow in the rain fall from the comfort of my room. A nearby restaurant provided me with shawarma and a salad for dinner.

I will never forget Ais as I was stopped twice a few miles before Ais by men (who did not identify themselves) in pick up trucks. My Arabic explanation was photographed and a phone call made. When I eventually reached Ais, I met my taxi and was immediately surrounded by several police vehicles – we weren’t going anywhere until the photocopy of my passport (no one asked why I didnt have my actual passport with me!) was checked and my story verified by the taxi driver.
