It’s enough to stop us in our tracks. And kill dreams, unfortunately.
What dream do you have? You know that dream you’ve stashed into the deepest recesses of your brain? The one you keep hidden because it scares the pants off you? Yeah, that one.
I want you to pull it out, blow away the cobwebs, and breathe some life into it.
The funny thing about fear is that the only way to overcome it is by doing. And the really funny thing is that when we’ve finally done it and managed to overcome fear, we look back on it and wonder why we were so scared.
How can you overcome your fear? There are three main steps.
1) Identify your fears
Put a name on your fear. Figure out exactly what it is that you are afraid of. Don’t leave it as “the great unknown” because there is no way to face the unknown. Make a list. Write down exactly what fears are holding you back from living your dream. Afraid of getting bitten by a snake? Write it down. Afraid of running out of money and coming back home homeless? Write it down. Make a list of each and every fear that is stopping you from living the life you want to live.
2) Prioritize your list
The fears you’re really terrified of go at the top. The ones you aren’t all that scared of go on the bottom. Be honest.
3) Banish your fears
Start at the bottom and face them down. Do it. Banish that fear by doing it, and then work your way up the list.
What you will find by doing this is that most of the fears that are holding you back really aren’t a big deal. You won’t know that until you actually make that list though.
And the really big fears? By checking off those lesser fears, you’ll gain confidence and courage to tackle the big ones. You will. Honest. Trust me on this one.
The important thing is to go. Do. Start walking. The magic is in the doing.
