Bike It Solo

What a treat!  After pedaling in Emmanuel’s tire tracks for so long, to finally meet him is wonderful!

Emmanuel Gentinetta set the world record as the youngest to cycle the length of the Americas back in 2000 when he was 18 years old.  He had pedaled from Prudhoe Bay to Ushuaia in a mere nine months.

It’s been great fun to swap stories from the road with him and we’re looking forward to a couple more days here.  He’s graciously invited us to stay as long as we want – and given the fact that the weather forecast calls for a week of rain, it may be a while!

About Nancy Sathre-Vogel

After 21 years as a classroom teacher, Nancy Sathre-Vogel finally woke up and realized that life was too short to spend it all with other people's kids. She and her husband quit their jobs and, together with their twin sons, climbed aboard bicycles to see the world. They enjoyed four years cycling as a family - three of them riding from Alaska to Argentina and one exploring the USA and Mexico. Now they are back in Idaho, putting down roots, enjoying life at home, and living a different type of adventure. It's a fairly sure bet that you'll find her either writing on her computer or creating fantastical pieces with the beads she's collected all over the world.

Nancy, Please give “Manny” (Emmanuel) my regards and say hello from me. It’s so neat seeing a current picture of him (I’m going to right-click it and save it). Emmanuel has been a friend of mine since 2003.

I spent the night of April 10, 2003 in Emmanuel’s dorm room at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California. It was neat talking to and meeting him. The thing that I remember so well is the informal gathering that we had in the dining hall when I got to meet some of his friends. There were about a dozen people there from five or six countries. It turned out to be a discussion of each other’s religions and it was quite informative. Our group was the last one to leave the dining hall.

Tell Emmanuel that he needs to update his website. There hasn’t been any activity since 2008 on it.
