Sometimes even the strongest dose of determination can’t overcome certain obstacles. And darn – we wish it would!
This morning we woke Davy up really early to see how he was doing. He walked around the hotel for a while, then told us he could do it – his stomach hurt a bit, but he could push on today. We packed up.
An hour later the bikes were completely packed and ready to go. John headed up to the room for a final check – and we would be off. But then Davy slumped against the wall and announced that he couldn’t do it after all – his stomach hurt too badly to be able to ride.
Daryl, so excited and antsy to meet up with Jessie and Sammy, offered to ride Davy’s single today if Davy was well enough to ride on the tandem. And if you’ve read this blog at all, you’ll know that Daryl hates riding the single.
Davy still felt he couldn’t go on.
So we’re still here – spitting distance from the Verhage’s, but we can’t seem to get there. We’re keeping our fingers and toes crossed that we’ll be able to get on the road tomorrow.

Daryl: A real admirable gesture on your part volunteering to ride the single. Another rest day and off you go. Davey: Keep up the determination (and the liquids). Love you all.

Sorry to hear that you’re still sick. But, phew, I’m glad to see you posting again. Those few days without a post had me worried that it was worse than an intestinal bug. I’ve been following you since Alaska and look forward to every update!
Hope all are well soon! Kate

There is something seriously wrong with you as parents. Your child is ill, but you’re more concerned about meeting up with your buddies? Instead of comforting your children, you take a picture of them lying sick on the cold pavement. You see this as OK? Wow.

We’re suffering with you guys, if only virtually! Hope everyone feels back to normal soon. The boys are setting a great example with their resilience – very admirable!
Stay safe! Craig

Davey, hope you are better soon and hope it is nothing serious! And Daryl, I admire your willingness to step up for your brother. That is what family is all about and you are on such a great journey that you will remember for the rest of your life…. KUDOS!! Hang in there!

Thanks all! We´re all doing a lot better. It´s been a long ride down to Rio Dulce, but we made it. We´re that much closer!
Aron – if you´ve been reading this blog at all, you will know that the kids are more antsy than me and John to meet up with the Verhages. They are pushing us on way more than we are pushing them!
