Grande Welcome (Grand Cache, Alberta, Canada)

“Welcome to Grande Cache, Vogel Family!”

We had just crested the top of a tough four-kilometer 8% grade climb. What a welcome!

After a yucky, rainy day, we encountered the hill knowing we were almost there. It was one of those chicken soup days – one of those days when I had to continually remind myself this was just one ingredient of our chicken soup.

In all honesty, it was a pretty easy day – except for that final climb to Grande Cache.

And the welcome we got here at the Best Western made it all worth it – we walked through the doors covered with road grime, but the smiles made it all worth it.

Now we’re clean and our bellies are full of pizza and chocolate milk. It’s pouring rain outside, but I don’t care any more – let it rain!

PS: Huge thanks go to Randy for kindness and generosity – we really do appreciate it all!

About Nancy Sathre-Vogel

After 21 years as a classroom teacher, Nancy Sathre-Vogel finally woke up and realized that life was too short to spend it all with other people's kids. She and her husband quit their jobs and, together with their twin sons, climbed aboard bicycles to see the world. They enjoyed four years cycling as a family - three of them riding from Alaska to Argentina and one exploring the USA and Mexico. Now they are back in Idaho, putting down roots, enjoying life at home, and living a different type of adventure. It's a fairly sure bet that you'll find her either writing on her computer or creating fantastical pieces with the beads she's collected all over the world.
