This is it. We’re off.
Our plans for the next few weeks are fairly simple – fly to Prudhoe Bay, put the bikes together, and start pedaling southward. Now if it could only pan out so easily…
We will be out of touch until we arrive in Fairbanks – probably the last week in June. I will be sure to get an update here as soon as we arrive, but this blog will be strangely quiet for a few weeks – never thought you could shut me up, eh??
These next couple of weeks will be the most difficult of the entire journey in many ways – we are out of shape, it’s a tough gravel road, we’ll be carrying food for two weeks, and it’s very, very remote. But we know it will also be a beautiful ride, and we’re excited about getting out there!
But I think the most difficult (or perhaps I should say the most nerve-wracking) will be the flight up to Prudhoe Bay. Although I’ve spent hours and hours on the phone with travel agents and customer service reps for the airlines, I’m still not convinced we’ll be able to get the tandem on the plane. At this point all we can do is go to the airport and pray they take it – and pray nothing gets damaged or lost in transit.
So – I’ll be back when we reach Fairbanks – whenever that may be!!
