Kids’ Bike is Home!

We picked up the kids’ bike today – YIPPEE!!  Davy was so excited to get out riding he was frustrated waiting for the mechanic to make a few modifications – “Why can’t I just go ride?”  We made him sit on the bike so we could see how he fit, then he patiently(?) waited while the handlebar was raised a bit. It was pretty cute.

While we were there, Channel 2 News was filming the whole process.  We will talk with them some more tomorrow, but they wanted to get the footage of the boys getting their new bike.

About Nancy Sathre-Vogel

After 21 years as a classroom teacher, Nancy Sathre-Vogel finally woke up and realized that life was too short to spend it all with other people's kids. She and her husband quit their jobs and, together with their twin sons, climbed aboard bicycles to see the world. They enjoyed four years cycling as a family - three of them riding from Alaska to Argentina and one exploring the USA and Mexico. Now they are back in Idaho, putting down roots, enjoying life at home, and living a different type of adventure. It's a fairly sure bet that you'll find her either writing on her computer or creating fantastical pieces with the beads she's collected all over the world.

Nancy, Just curious – why didn’t the Co-Motion work out? My son and I are riding the Periscope Scout down the West Coast this summer and love it so far. Will you need to add a stoker kit to the Rodriguez? Again, just curious!

The Co-Motions are great bikes, but we wanted mountain bike gearing on it. It came with road gearing. At the beginning they didn’t think it would be a big deal to swap it out, but it ended up meaning not only new gears, but a new derailleur as well. Which then meant we had to change the entire shifting system… In the end, it was doable, but a big hassle. Rodgriguez will make one that fits Daryl (just barely so he can grow into it) and it will be made with the gearing we want. I’m sure you will love your Co-Motion on your trip – we would have had no problem riding a Co-Motion if we could have gotten the gearing we need!
